- Gingival recessions expose teeth roots once covered by gum. They also result in reduction or complete elimination of the protective gum surrounding the tooth; creating a gateway for bacteria. The exposed roots are sensitive to cold and heat and are more at risk of developing carious lesions.
- Several factors can contribute to the development of recessions, such as periodontal disease with the accompanying bone loss, gingival inflammation, traumatic brushing, tooth misalignment/malocclusion and parafunctional habits such as tooth grinding.
